BTS RADIO: S.Maharba – Twin Sisters MIx

SMAHARBABTS

Gritty beats, dusty jazz and haunting samples. S.Maharba is a sleeping giant.

Based out of England’s Eastern region in the city of Ipswich, S.Maharba has quietly been spawning tracks full of emotional power. An instrumental (most of the time) artist who’s tracks going beyond anything that can just be called “beats”. Channeling the great trip-hop and downtempo producers of the mid ‘90s, S.Maharba creates infectious, deep, boom-bap instrumental tracks.

With top-notch sample choice, it’s difficult, or rather interesting to know, that S.Maharba’s first musical groundwork was made in various hardcore metal bands. Bands which he played bass guitar, drums or any instrumental duties necessary. Even providing vocals if needed.

S.Maharba is ready to awaken. Last January, I crowned Letherette as the UK’s best kept secret, I didn’t realize how soon that title would have to be shared. Make way. …via BTS Radio

SVETLANA SHORTCAST #1: TEEBS

TEEBS

(THIS IS A REPOST CAUSE IT GOT DELETED)

We could think of no one better to launch our series than California beatmaker, painter, rising star and Svetlana recording artist Teebs.

Teebs has been building a considerable reputation in his own quiet way.

A member of the LA-based Brainfeeder collective, he was first featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ “Wild Angels” compilation, before releasing the collaborative Tropics EP with Jackhigh on Svetlana in April 2010.

He’s built a reputation as much as a painter as a musician, producing the artwork for The Tropics EP as well as a series of limited handpainted covers. He’s also produced commissioned artwork for a range of other artists and exhibits regularly in and around Los Angeles.

His music is distinctive in being both abstract and emotional at the same time, with an almost jazz-like ambiguity to its mood.

As of July 2010 he is currently touring the USA with Shlohmo and will release his debut album shortly on Brainfeeder’s own label. …..via Svetlana Industries

FREE THE ROBOTS [LIVE SET] (Alpha Pup Records, Los Angeles)

Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, Psych, Electronic, Hip Hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions.

Based out of Santa Ana, CA, Free The Robots started as a side project by Alfaro in 2003 while also playing with different bands, producing MC’s, and DJing full time. Having worked with so many different styles of music, Free the Robots brought everything together under one roof, allowing further exploration. With the use of samples, Controllers, and other live instruments, Alfaro creates a balance between the sounds of the past, present & future.

Free the Robots has reached a worldwide audience since its humble beginnings and found its place among the top artists in this genre. With the constant development of Alfaro’s sound and live show, Free the Robots Has shared the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, the Glitch Mob, Nosaj Thing, Afrika Bambaataa and more.

On March 2010, Free The Robots released his debut album titled “CTRL ALT DELETE” on Daddy Kev’s imprint, Alpha Pup Records.• FREE THE ROBOTS [LIVE SET] (Alpha Pup Records, Los Angeles)

ROAM ELSEWHERE [DJ SET] (OBEY Records, Los Angeles)

Roam is an Orange County based DJ/Musician that’s been making noise in Southern California for several years now. He was brought up playing trumpet and guitar for array of garage bands, and eventually ended up DJing in grade school. He drew his inspirations from street art, music, mind-altering drugs. Roam is also the sound engineer @ OBEY Records & a Co-Founder of FromElsewhere, an OC/LA based creative team with different backgrounds. He also runs the international marketing/ special projects division for OBEY Clothing.

In 2007, Roam teamed up with Urth (Free The Robots) to released a mix titled “From City To City” on OBEY Records. The mix was created to reflect OBEY on more of a musical aspect with all influences taking cues from hip-hop, punk, disco, rock, downtempo, uptempo, jazz, etc. Different from all the other “mash-up/re-edit” mixtapes out, its eclectic blends are more organic, keeping that authenticity of each timeless track.

He recently did some post production work on Free The Robots’ latest album titled “CTRL ALT DELETE”.

Join us as we give OBEY a DUBPLATE Welcoming Bashment Manila Stylee….once AGAIN!!

If you went to the first Dubplate X OBEY Bashment last Feb, you know it was MASSIVE… so make sure you don’t miss out on this!
